Humaira Mahmuda Tumpa died in a tragic road accident on June 22 while on duty. She was 34. She left behind her two daughters and husband.

Her colleagues at the Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor Communities Project (LIUPCP) contributed to a common fund to support for continuing the education of her two daughters - Taslim Tabassum and Arfin Tabassum.

Addressing a check handover programme online, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said that Tumpa was one of the most proactive and energetic SENF who died while working for the project. “Tumpa was dedicated and committed community front liner,” the Mayor said thanking all the staffs who contributed to the fund to support the children.

He also appreciated the role of DFID and UNDP for the emergency response initiatives under LIUPC project during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Staffs and front line workers of LIUPC project work here like a family and they have proved that any complex development initiative can be implemented if we can work sincerely,” the Mayor said adding, “The team here works with utmost sincerity and defying the risk of life, which is highly commendable.”

“I am extremely grateful to DFID and UNDP for their tremendous support,” he added.

Md Abdul Mannan, National Project Director of LIUPCP, expressed deep shock at the death of Humaira Mahmuda Tumpa and said this support will help the children to continue their education. He prayed for the salvation of her departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He thanked the Mayor for his generous support in implementing the programmes of the project.

Yugesh Pradhanang, International Technical Adviser for LIUPCP and Project Manager (a.i) said that it was very saddening and shocking for us to lose such great staff and community front liner. “We are considering insurance and support mechanism for the frontline staffs,” he said.

Md. Sarower Hossain Khan, LIUPCP Town Manager at Chattogram City Corporation moderated the ceremony and said, “She worked her last moment of life for our project. The accident took place as she was on her way for cash transfer verification. Chattogram team of LIUPCP is really proud for her dedication and contribution.”
